Medical emergencies prompted two cruise ships to divert to Bermuda inside 24 hours, with three passenger evacuations in complete.
The Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre reported that the Odyssey of the Seas visited the island’s shores yesterday to drop off a 31-year-old male crew member who required medical consideration.
The ship, which was on its approach from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Ponta Delgada within the Azores, arrived in native waters at 7pm, and the Indonesian crew member was taken to Ordnance Island by the pilot and rescue boat St George and escorted through ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
One other medical emergency involving a 74-year-old feminine passenger from Belgium prompted the vessel to return to the island’s waters at 5am right this moment.
BMOC additionally reported that the Oasis of the Seas, which was going from Miami, Florida to Cadiz, Spain, arrived in native waters at 1am to drop off a 69-year-old passenger from the USA who wanted medical consideration.
The passenger was taken to Ordnance Island and escorted safely to KEMH.
