CSO Petitions EFCC Over Alleged Financial Sabotage At Kano FTZ


A civil society organisation, Centre for Consciousness on Good Governance and Growth, has petitioned the Financial Monetary and Crimes Fee (EFCC) over alleged illegalities happening on the Nigerian Export Processing Zone Authority’s (NEPZA) Free Commerce Zone (FTZ) in Kano State, resulting in lack of billions of Naira in income.

Within the petition addressed to the Zonal Director of the Fee in Kano and signed by the CSO’s Govt Director, Abubakar Auwal Yakubu, the group alleged that the illegality was allegedly happening below the watch of some unpatriotic operatives of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS).

A duplicate of the petition, which sighted by LEADERSHIP, reads in elements: “We write as a member of the civil society organisation to convey your fast consideration to the Financial Sabotage of Monumental Proportion occurring on the Kano Export Processing Zone at Panisau in Kano State.

“Our grievance is to the impact that for someday now the administration and different officers charged with the operationalization and Administration of the Kano Free Commerce Zone have unpatriotically turned the Zone into an unlawful hub of financial sabotage by participating in motion prejudicial to the aim of the institution of the mentioned Zone.

“These heinous actions embrace the embarking on mass clearance of completed items opposite to the regulation and targets of the institution of the mentioned Zone. Notice, Sir, that the principle goal of the Free Commerce Zone being Export Processing Zone is so as to add worth to the method and clear major items for export on the Zone.

“It has no mandate over completed items that produce other designated retailers for his or her processing and clearance.

“By the supply of part 6(1)of Nigerian Export Processing Zone Act, the administration of the Export Processing Zone is simply empowered to cope with and interact in actions within the third schedule of the Act. These actions don’t embrace processing of completed items for export.”
